A therapeutic community (TC) therapist/coordinator facilitates behavioral and psychological recovery by utilizing the community environment itself as a primary healing tool. They guide residents-often in addiction or mental health facilities-through highly structured, peer-led routines to build accountability, social responsibility, and independent living skills.
Core Responsibilities:
- Community Integration: Oversee the community milieu, using peer confrontation, role modeling, and privilege structures to encourage behavioral changes.
- Group and Individual Therapy: Conduct daily or weekly group, family, and individual counseling sessions focused on trauma, coping strategies, and addiction.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and update individualized treatment plans based on comprehensive psychosocial assessments and monitor progress.
- Crisis Management: Provide on-site crisis intervention and resolve acute behavioral problems or conflicts among residents.
- Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the clinical team to prepare clients for community re-entry and ongoing continuum of care.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, or Clinical Psychology.
- Licensure: State-recognized independent clinical license required (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, or LPC).
- Experience: Typically, 2+ years of experience in inpatient, residential, or substance use treatment environments.
Expected Skills:
- Milieu Management: The ability to balance a structured, egalitarian living environment with individualized clinical treatment.
- Boundaries & Ethics: Capacity to maintain professional boundaries while fostering a high-trust, immersive community.
