Legislative Audit, a department of the legislative branch of South Dakota state government, has an opening for a secretarial position. This position involves secretarial/clerical and data entry tasks involving the use of judgement and discretion. The selected candidate works closely with the Senior Secretary and reports directly to the Finance Officer.

As secretary, you will transcribe and compose correspondence requiring good knowledge of office policies and procedures; dispose of office details not requiring official attention or decision; compile and arrange information and data which may be of a confidential nature; transcribe a variety of materials requiring alertness; good judgement and discretion as well as difficult tabular and numerical projects; and perform related work as required. This position can be part-time or full-time. If part-time, the position would be 20-30 hours per week.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience or combination of education and experience is preferred.

Knowledge of:
  • modern practices and procedures of business English, grammar and punctuation;
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.

Skill to:
  • create quality work by being conscientious and detail-oriented.

Ability to:
  • type accurately;
  • operate required office machines;
  • work independently;
  • make logical decisions and carry out detailed instructions;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
