The Pharmacy Inspector who works for the South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing and conducting inspections at pharmacies and wholesalers located in South Dakota for the purpose of ensuring that licensees are protecting the health of South Dakota patients and residents. The inspector will report to the Board of Pharmacy Executive Director and work closely with inspector team.
Work with Board Staff to schedule and conduct inspections, maintain records of inspections and monitor compliance with recommendations and action plans. Uses management and leadership skills to ensure efficient, effective and responsible practices while using Board resources to schedule and conduct meaningful inspections. Conduct investigations of complaints received by the Board. Asssist the Executive Director in responding to questions from licensees, recommending updates to Administrative Rules and Inspection Documents, and preparing reports of activities. Provides presentations to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on pharmacy regulations. Assist the PDMP staff in educating pharmacists and prescribers on proper use of program data to improve patient care.
This position is a 0.25 FTE located in the Rapid City geographical area, conducting inspections in the city and surrounding communities. The work schedule will require mostly local travel. Occasional overnight travel required for Board Meetings, presentations, and inspector training.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
Licenses and Certifications:
The successful applicant must be licensed as a pharmacist in good standing by the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy.

- complex federal and state pharmacy laws, rules and regulations in order to monitor for compliance and to assist licensees in their efforts toward compliance;
- general knowledge of pharmacy dispensing software systems.
- computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point);
- excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- manage time and resources;
- plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate with Board Staff;
- work independently and/or as part of a team to fulfill the responsibilities of the Board; handle protected health information with tact and discretion.
