The West Regional Manager works within the SD-DOH's Division of Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) and provides leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for the Rapid City regional office. This position directly supervises five Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) who provide public health services related to vaccine-preventable diseases, HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis, zoonotic diseases, and other emerging infectious diseases and public health threats.
This position coordinates regional public health activities with DPC program managers, epidemiologists, and fellow Regional Managers to ensure consistent implementation of statewide programs and priorities. Additionally, the Regional Manager provides public health consultation and guidance to healthcare providers, tribal partners and local agencies, businesses, and other community partners to support disease prevention and response efforts across western South Dakota.
Responsibilities include overseeing regional operations and administrative functions, supporting staff development and performance, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with program requirements, coordinating outbreak response activities, and helping ensure public health needs are effectively addressed throughout the region. This is a full-time position that requires occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.
Registered nurse with an associate or bachelor degree and at least 2 years of RN experience. Non-Nurses will be trained to perform phlebotomy (blood draws). Employee will intermittently conduct field visits to locate clients for notification, education, testing and/or treatment.
Licenses and Certifications:
Registered Nurse applicants must have a current South Dakota nursing license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Two years of public health supervisory experience. A background with relevant experience or medical field such as nursing, health administration, or science is preferred.
Knowledge of:
