Summary:
This position is a key member of the leadership team within the Office of Licensure and Certification. The Long Term Care Advisor oversees the inspection of Long Term Care facilities to ensure compliance with federal requirements. Inspection of the providers focuses on related services in areas such as nursing, resident activities, quality of care, quality of life, dietary services, and life safety codes to ensure compliance with state licensure requirements for the protection of the public from health and safety hazards. This position is required to survey health care facilities; perform quality assurance of surveys and survey writing; represent the department as the State Survey Agency; review policies, procedures, and processes; ensure surveys and workload meet state and federal requirements; provide orientation and training; and to provide technical assistance regarding all matters within licensure of the above providers. Salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the individual hired.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN). Candidate must be Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT) certified or willing to be certified within six months of hire

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Preference will be given to individuals with work and/or who have survey experience in Long Term Care settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • principles and practices of the disciplines providing services to patients and residents in health care facilities;

  • federal and state laws and regulations related to licensure and certification of health facilities and operational programs;
  • survey process and procedures;
  • food safety and sanitation programs;

  • plan and assign work, and provide staff guidance and support to ensure the objectives of the work unit are met;
  • provide technical assistance and oversight of complex or high profile work, develops policies and procedures, and represents the work unit with external parties

Skills to:

  • computer applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
