The South Dakota Department of Health, Division of Family & Community Health's Office of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion is seeking an energetic and passionate individual to join the team as the Immunization Program Coordinator.

The Immunization Program Coordinator will implement statewide immunization programming, with a focus on the Vaccines for Children Program. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing education and technical assistance to Vaccines for Children partners, including guidance on immunization schedules, vaccine administration and storage, and other federal standards. The Immunization Program Coordinator will closely collaborate with internal and external partners, including healthcare facilities and clinicians, and public health programs, requiring strong communication, professionalism, and teamwork skills. This position will require regular statewide travel.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of South Dakota.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • A minimum of two years of nursing experience.

Knowledge of:
  • the impact of immunizations on public health;
  • clinical processes for immunizations;
  • quality improvement;
  • public relations;
  • leading causes of death and the associated risk factors.

Skill to:
  • work as a team and individually on projects;
  • communicate effectively in both a written and verbal manner;
  • manage time effectively to coordinate multiple projects;
  • interact with people in a respectful, professional, and forthright manner;
  • use word, excel, and other computer programs efficiently.

Ability to:
  • communicate clearly and concisely to staff, partners, and contractors;
  • administer programs that are evidence-based to improve the health of South Dakotans;
  • facilitate implementation and quality improvement of state and federal programs;
  • work as part of a team in a fast paced, continuously evolving environment of health promotion and disease prevention;
