GFP Intern - Park Management (Summer)

Position Description: This internship will provide a candidate with essential on the job experience relating to the management of a state park and recreation area - including signage, audits, budgeting, and capital development. With a park district that contains high use in both camping and day-use, the candidate will acquire great experience. The intern will be involved with the daily management of Palisades State Park. With a large number of visitors, and wide variety of recreation offerings, this park will provide an intern with a well-rounded experience. The intern will also be involved with planning and development that relates to annual park management. The intern will be given the opportunity to develop new skills, lead seasonal employees, and utilize learned coursework/studies that relate to park management. A desire to provide great customer service and strong people skills will serve the candidate well. The intern will serve as a leader in the absence of the park manager. Sioux Falls is located about 20 miles Southwest of park. On site housing may be available, nights and weekends are to be expected.
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college, university or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the applicant should have at least a sophomore standing or currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months).
Preference will be given to South Dakota residents and students of South Dakota institutions.
Coursework towards natural resources, park management, wildlife and fisheries or any other related field is beneficial but not required.
Minimum Salary: $17.19
