This Wildland Firefighter Crew Boss will supervise a Department of Corrections (DOC) handcrew performing fuels mitigation projects; works on fires and is exposed to burns, smoke inhalation, heat exhaustion, and extensive hard labor; works in emergency situations and may be exposed to uncertain conditions, bad weather, hazardous materials, etc.; works on projects which require use of power and hand tools which have an element of risk; walks and works in rough terrain; conducts daily project briefings with inmates members; prepares production reports for the crew; reviews crew activities to ensure that work is completed safely and in a timely way; purchases minor supplies to support project activities; and inspects crew vehicles and equipment to ensure proper upkeep. The incumbent will work outside in all types of weather conditions and terrain, and must be able to maintain an arduous physical fitness rating.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license is required.
Applicants must have minimum certification as a FFT1 per NWCG PMS 310-1.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Applicants possessing the National Wildland Coordination Group (NWCG) Crew Boss qualifications are preferred.
- firefighting methods and equipment;
- firefighting safety practices and techniques;
- fire behavior and potential in various fuels, weather conditions, and terrain;
- vehicle and equipment maintenance and appropriate tools.
- organize and manage a large number of employees efficiently;
- communicate effectively;
- maintain required physical fitness standards.
